The short version of my life goes something like this; I grew up in a church that did not tell me how to become right with God through Jesus’ sacrificial death on my behalf. The longer we attended that church, the more pointless religion began to feel. It was when we changed churches that I heard the truth about Christ’s death for the first time. Its still hard for me to tell when this message became reality to me, but by the time I graduated high school I truly understood God’s provision in Christ to be a precious gift, unmerited and invaluable.
It was because of this newfound desire to grow in Christ that I decided to attend a Bible college in Ohio. It was here that God gave me yet another gift, my wife, Jodi. We graduated together in June of 2003 and were married two months later in August.
It was on our first anniversary that we moved to Greenville so I could take on the title “Pastor of Music”. We’ve now served here for six years and I consider this to be yet another sign of God’s goodness to me—a gracious gift to an undeserving servant. There is no human institution that can compare to His church.
By the way, I’ve been a recipient of two more gifts—Owen (yes, I’m nerdy enough to name my son after a Puritan) came in 2007 and Ellie followed in 2009. My hope is that God will richly bless my children as I have seen Him richly bless me.
