Support for Haiti and the Dominican Republic Tuesday, 26 January 2010
|
For the past few weeks, we've presented to you some options (see below) for supporting the relief and gospel efforts of missionaries to the crisis in Haiti. We're thankful for those we have heard within our own congregation who have responded and have given to such efforts.
At our recent elder meeting, however, we simply found our hearts continuing to ache for those in the midst of such devastation. Therefore, we think it would be appropriate to organize an official collection from Greenville Grace to go to this effort. Between now and February 14th, we're asking the Body to respond with an extra offering (not replacing what you give to Grace, but in addition to) toward gospel work in Haiti.
From February 26th - March 6th we will have a team from our church heading down to the Dominican Republic. Quite possibly, several from this team will also be dispatched to a hospital in Haiti. Your support will go toward various medical supplies (many surgical supplies are needed), freight and additional cost for team members to attend. Even those who will remain in the D.R. are scheduled to work in a hospital we have not served previously; a hospital in San Pedro, a city with a number of participating churches.
Take the gospel opportunity in your own home as well. If your married, discuss and pray over this with your spouse. If you have children, take the opportunity to bring them into the loop and discuss how we are not looking to just send relief but the gospel as well. While creation continues to groan, God is affording us the opportunity to point people to the hope to come! (Romans 8:18-25)
Simply mark your gift "mission trip" and place it in the plate during the next three Sundays.
We love you and praise God for your partnership in the gospel. The Elders at Greenville Grace
